Dyer Travels Intro - 1

Dyer Travels

Not that our travels are Dire, but the name did have a certain resonance for a number of reasons.  It should be easy to remember, reflects our name and leaves you in no doubt what the blogs are about.  I have tried sharing my travel adventures with varying degrees of success, but this time I have the assistance of a Social Media Guru in the form of my son Reece, who will help my ramblings arrive on this site in better shape than I sent them.

Back to our trip.  This time Julie and I are heading East for another exciting adventure.  First stop is Vietnam, then into Cambodia before heading back to a beach resort in Vietnam for a few days rest and relaxation.  We have booked through a company called Scenic, which was recommended by friends Julie & Norman, who did the same trip 2 years ago.  They are, what can I say, discerning travellers, so when they said "It was excellent", we did the deed.

Some of you will know we have used the same travel agent for many years, but in planning this trip, it felt like our business was being taken for granted.  After a 30 minute chat to build a "tailor made adventure", it took less than two hours to provide an itinerary that did not include the places we asked to visit, had our holiday finishing in a high end resort on an island in Thailand, when we explicitly said we did not want to stay in Thailand.   The final insult was the cost, they wanted twice what our friends April and Phil had spent on a similar trip with the same company.  My advice  is, no matter how much loyalty you have to a company, always shop around, your requirements may not change, but the company you think you know may have.

The trip is going to be very busy, and I hope it will provide time for regular updates, if not, please feel free to be relieved or disappointed if you don’t hear from me.  Also, my blogs have a comment option, which requires a Google Account.  If you don’t have a Google Account and want to comment, just send me an email.

Next stop and next post Hanoi!

Well, that is what I thought when I typed my introduction, but our route is via Dubai!  Yes, that looks a little tricky due to the Iranian Regime droning on toward our first stop.  Now our dilemma.  Emirates Airline say they will not refund as they hope flights will recommence, so our travel agent is stuck.  So my question to you, my reader, do we go, or not?  If it were you, what would you do?  I will let you know what Julie and I decide in my next blog from Dubai.

To finish a FCO map and a link to a song that reflects our first world dilemma.

Cu Chi, Cu Chi Coooo - 15

It was sad to leave the ship, but our coach to Saigon awaited and the crew had to prepare for another cohort of guests.  Saigon, which was ...
